Chaperone Policy

Chaperones in Your Consultation

At our practice, we are committed to ensuring your dignity, safety, and comfort during medical consultations and examinations.

🔍 What is a Chaperone?

A chaperone is a trained member of staff who is present during certain consultations or examinations to:

    • Provide emotional support and reassurance

    • Maintain professional boundaries

    • Assist the clinician if necessary

    • Protect both the patient and the healthcare professional

👥 When Can I Have a Chaperone?

You can request a chaperone at any stage of your appointment, including:

    • During intimate examinations

    • If you feel uncomfortable for any reason

    • Regardless of the gender of the clinician

We will always offer a chaperone if a procedure involves intimate or sensitive areas.

🧑‍⚕️ Who Acts as a Chaperone?

Chaperones are trained clinical or non-clinical staff who understand their role and responsibilities, including:

    • Maintaining patient confidentiality

    • Recognising unacceptable behaviour

    • Providing support without interfering in clinical judgment

🗣️ How Do I Request One?

    • Simply let the receptionist, nurse, or doctor know you would like a chaperone.

    • You can request a chaperone before or during your consultation.

    • In rare cases, your appointment may be rescheduled if a chaperone is not immediately available.
